CASNR SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS

2016 CASNR Louis and Betty Gardner Outstanding Senior

CASNR Outstand Senior_2016 Kalyn McKibben, an animal science major with a business option and minor in agricultural economics from Wyandotte, Oklahoma, is the 2016 CASNR Outstanding Senior. She is the daughter of Lyndon and Phyllis McKibben.

While at OSU, Kalyn served as a member of the 2015 National Beef Ambassador Team, President of Oklahoma Collegiate Cattlewomen, American National Cattlewomen Board of Directors Collegiate Representative and member of the Animal Science Leadership Alliance.

Kalyn was recognized as a Lloyd Noble Scholar in Agriculture, Hagan Scholar, OSU Top Twenty Freshmen Woman and last fall was named a 2015-2016 OSU Senior of Significance.

After graduation, Kalyn plans to pursue career opportunities in beef advocacy and production. She hopes to dedicate her career to shining a positive light on production agriculture.

“My time as a Cowboy has truly prepared me to accomplish my dreams by pushing me to strive for excellence through meaningful relationships established with faculty and staff, hands-on teaching techniques and exceptional extra-curricular opportunities.”

2016 CASNR Charles and Magda Browning Outstanding Freshman Award

CASNR Outstand Freshman_2016

Courtney Mapes, an animal science and biochemistry major with a biotechnology option from Alva, Oklahoma, is the 2016 CASNR Outstanding Freshman. She is the daughter of Jeff and Michelle Mapes.

Courtney is involved in several clubs and organizations on campus, including the OSU Student Alumni Board, Animal Science Leadership Alliance, Swine Club and Pre-Vet Club. During her freshman year, she served as a Freshmen Representative for the CASNR Student Council.

Courtney was a member of the 2015 International Runner-Up Livestock Evaluation team. Additionally, she has been recognized on the President’s Honor Roll and accepted for membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

“Freshman is defined as ‘someone who is starting a job or activity.’ During my freshman year experience, I found it was a learning period, not only studying, but adjusting to college versus that of small town Oklahoma. By the end of my first year, OSU was my new home.”
