The Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service (OCES) is seeking 10-12 interns for the summer of 2018. Interns - who will be college juniors, seniors or graduate students in Fall 2018 - will learn the duties and functions of a County Educator and be given one or more special projects to develop and administer. OCES will work with departmental internship programs that grant credit for internships for students who wish to obtain college credit for this experience.

Time: Internships will begin approximately one week after the end of the Oklahoma State University spring semester (May 2018) and continue until approximately one week prior to the Oklahoma State University fall semester (August 2018). Total employment time is expected to be 8–10 weeks.

Location: Interns will work in one of the many county Extension offices in the State of Oklahoma. Intern applicants may express a preference with regard to the county(ies) they prefer, but the final assignment will depend upon county needs and the collective preferences of all applicants. Local county educators will assist interns in finding local housing, as needed.

Salary: Compensation will be at the rate of $400/week. Additional funds will be provided to county offices to assist in carrying out projects with the interns.

Qualifications: Preference will be given to juniors, seniors and graduate students majoring in any department in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources or the College of Human Sciences, or majors in other colleges that relate to employability with the OCES. Students with majors in other colleges or universities will also be considered. Minority students are strongly encouraged to apply. Previous interns can apply but will not receive any preferred status.

Desirable attributes of applicants include the following:

a) An ability to work with people;
b) An ability to work as a team member;
c) Strong verbal and written communication skills;
d) Knowledge of agriculture and/or family and consumer sciences, and/or 4-H Youth Development programs; and
e) An interest in Extension, or closely related fields, as a career.

Application Process: Written applications and résumé should be submitted by January 5, 2018 as indicated on the application form.

The Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service considers applicants without discrimination for any non-merit reason such as race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age or disability, or status as a Vietnam-era veteran. OSU is an equal opportunity employer committed to multicultural diversity.
