Scholar Development

Historically, students within the Oklahoma State University College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) have been very competitive in competition for national scholarship awards.  CASNR’s tradition of building a strong relationship between students and their faculty advisers beginning in the freshman year, provides great advantages for the development of student scholars.

Undergraduate students who have demonstrated outstanding academic success in high school or in their freshman and sophomore college courses should consider opportunities to develop as prominent scholars at Oklahoma State University and beyond.

CASNR faculty and staff and the OSU Office of Scholar Development and Recognition provide significant support for the identification and development of exceptional scholars and urge students with strong academic interests to step forward as early as possible.

Prior to enrollment, prospective students can make their interests in scholar development known during a campus visit to OSU and CASNR.  Transfer students with a scholar development interest should contact a CASNR advisor in their  intended major, well before transferring to OSU.  For incoming freshmen students, involvement in the OSU Honors College and/or participation in the Freshman Research Scholars program are excellent ways to get an early start.   Additionally, current CASNR student scholars can provide valuable insight and advice to prospective students with a scholar development interest, and the college faculty and staff will help in making these connections.

Any student interested in learning more about scholar development is referred to the OSU Scholar Development and Recognition home page where details and examples of all aspects of scholar development are provided.
