The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) recognizes the achievements and potential of outstanding CASNR students through selection processes for several special awards and prestigous internships. These recognitions provide opportunities not only for students to celebrate their accomplishments but also gain valuable experiences that will enhance the foundation for their future successes.
Ag Legislative InternshipThe Ag Legislative Internship is an opportunity developed through a partnership between the OSU College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, the Oklahoma State Senate and Oklahoma House of Representatives, to:
- Provide a working knowledge of the structure and operational procedures of the state government in Oklahoma
- Encourage engagement in the civic life of the state
- Provide a situation to observe and evalauate first-hand the opportunities associated with a career in politics or public service at the state level.
Particular emphasis for this prestigous internship is placed on experiencing the legislative process and the role of the Oklahoma Senate and House Committees on Agriculture. The Ag Legislative Intern has the opportunity to work with the Chairs of both the Senate and House Committees on Agriculture and to work with the Oklahoma Commissioner of Agriculture and departmental staff. The selected intern serves throughout the spring semester and is involved in daily activities at the Capitol while the State Legislature is in session. USDA Agricultural Internship Program
The Oklahoma State Unviersity College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources is one of only 10 institutions selected to nominate candidates for the USDA Agricultural Internship Program. This exceptional internship program provides undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing degrees in the agricultural disciplines with hands-on experiences in the various USDA mission areas and agencies through opportunities such as shadow experiences and rotational assignments with executive-level individuals. Each spring, summer and fall semester, CASNR is asked to nominate up to three student candidates to compete for USDA Agricultural Internship Program, based in Washington, DC. Frank D. Lucas Agricultural Policy Internship
Congressman Frank D. Lucas of Oklahoma's Sixth Congressional district established the Frank D. Lucas Agricultural Policy Internship to provide OSU students interested in agriculture with valuable insight into farm problems and potential federal solutions. The selected intern serves six weeks during the summer months working in Washington, DC with the United State House of Representatives on agricultural policy issues. CASNR Outstanding Awards
Each spring semester the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources acknowledges oustanding seniors within CASNR who have accomplished extraordinary achievements in the areas of academics, leadership, scholarly activity, community involvement and career development. From submitted applications a committe of CASNR faculty, staff and administrators selects a group of senior students to be awarded Outstanding Senior recognition, and then narrows the Outstanding Seniors for identification of the top five students as Fred LeCrone Award winners and for recognition of the top CASNR senior as the Paul and Mary Hummer Oustanding Senior awardee. Applications for the Outstanding Senior Awards become available each November 15 and must be submitted on or before February 1.

Charles Browning Outstanding Freshman Award
The Browning Outstanding Freshman Award is presented each spring during the annual CASNR Scholarship and Awards Banquet to an second-year Oklahoma State University CASNR student based upon his/her exceptional accomplishments achieved throughout the freshman year. Applications for the Browning Outstanding Freshman Award become available each November 15 and must be submitted on or before February 1. Applicants are evaluated based upon their academic achievement, leadership and community involvement, recognitions and experiential accomplishments.
