Kendra Moreland, public relations director for Stan Clark Cos., is proof you do not have to be from an agriculture background to succeed in a major based on agriculture.
While at Oklahoma State University, Moreland experienced several internships, which allowed her to obtain hands-on experience in areas such as event planning, writing and advertising.
“Take advantage of internships,” Moreland said. “Go for more; try doing something totally different than the other.”
As a public relations director, Morelands’ responsibilities include media relations, event planning, restaurant materials, group tours at production facilities, internal newsletter, customer database, community events, plus much more.
“If you are a people person, interested in working in a team environment and good at organizational and time management skills, then agricultural communications would be a good fit for you,” Moreland said. “College is a good place to define your skill set.”
