F.I.T. Student Academic Mentors (S.A.M.s)
What is a FIT SAM?
FIT Student Academic Mentors are a select group of upper-class students chosen to live and work with CASNR freshmen who are a part of the FIT Program.
Mission Statement for FIT SAMs:
FIT SAMs serve as mentors to a small group of FIT students and provide guidance, support and direction that will ease their transition to college life.
Benefits for FIT SAMs:
SAM's will enhance skills in leadership, mediation, communication and organization. They will get to know and mentor new students and teach them how to be a successful college student. SAM's will also grow and learn through their involvement with FIT. As a SAM you will learn things about yourself above and beyond the normal college experience.
Selection Process:
SAM's are selected from an application and interview process. Interested students should complete and return the online application. Information about the interview and other evaluation activities will be provided to candidates who are selected to participate. The selection committee will contact you if you are invited to participate.
Eligibility:
FIT SAM's must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, at least 28 earned credit hours by the beginning of the fall term of service, a record of scholastic achievement and extra-curricular involvement. In addition, they MUST live in the FIT residence hall and be willing to share constructive personal experiences and to foster social integration and academic achievement among the FIT students.
Required Duties:
Those students selected as FIT SAMS will be required to attend FIT meetings, FIT SAM meetings, and key FIT activities throughout the entire academic year and must serve as AG 1011 SAMs during the fall semester.
