Studens to prep for Career Fair in "At the Movies" atmosphere

Oklahoma State University students can enjoy an “At the Movies” atmosphere complete with popcorn, candy and soda while preparing for the upcoming Agricultural, Food, Environmental and Natural Sciences Career Fair. “Career Fair: At the Movies” will be held Thurs., Sept. 3 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in 103 Agriculture Hall.

Freshman Research Scholars program introduces CASNR students to research basics

Eleven incoming Oklahoma State University freshmen from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources will each receive a $1,000 scholarship to pursue an early, hands-on introduction to university-level research in the Freshman Research Scholars (FRS) program during the upcoming academic year.

CASNR Student Council is the “student government” of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, and comprised of two branches. The Executive branch is made up of 11 executives. The Representative of CASNR Student Council is made up of representatives selected by each of the clubs/organizations within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. The CASNR Student Council executives coordinate many of the club/organization activities throughout the year. Freshmen and Transfer Representatives are selected to help coordinate the activities sponsored by the CASNR Student Council. They attend all of the executive meetings as well as CASNR Student Full Council meetings. They also are placed under an executive as an intern in order to learn the roles of that position and help the executive in various ways.

The Oklahoma Agricultural Leadership Encounter is a program designed to expand the knowledge of the Agricultural Industry in Oklahoma for today's young adults. Expansion and extension of the educational component of the Oklahoma Junior Livestock Program through production agriculture, is a major goal of the Oklahoma Youth Expo board of directors and staff. It is only through a stronger concentration on education that future leaders are developed.

Voices of the Soil Video and Essay Contest

2015 is the International Year of Soils, and Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Lexicon of Sustainability are celebrating one of our most important natural resources by hosting a contest for young farmers, agricultural students, or any young person who appreciates the value of healthy soil. The contest is open to any United States citizen between the age of 18 and 28 who loves soil and is pursuing an education or career in agriculture, environmental science, or other related fields. We especially encourage submissions from young farmers. Contestants may submit a two-minute video essay less than 5 minutes in length and/or a written essay between 700 and 1000 words by September 8, 2015.

Byron Enix is a 1984 agricultural economics graduate. He started work with the Farm Credit Service when he graduated and advanced through several positions within the system. Assistant Professor of Soil Science, Oklahoma State University

Dr. Abit focuses primarily in soil science teaching and is the undergraduate program coordinator, academic adviser and serves as the OSU Agronomy Club adviser.
